STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2010-11-09 (Week 45) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * The STEREO Science Center will be moving from building 26 at Goddard to building 21. The current anticipated date of the move is now Nov 29. See below for details. INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * All subsystems on both spacecraft are nominal. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 44 * On day 311 (Nov 7), during the DSS 34 support for Ahead, the transmitter tripped off-line at 1847z. The transmitter was reset and the uplink was re-established at 1854z. This resulted in the loss of several minutes of instrument SSR data. See DR# C107720 for more information. * Ahead was at aphelion on day 310 (Nov 6). * On day 305 (Nov 1), during the DSS 65 support for Behind, a second downlink channel was configured to test with the new DCD data path. DCD IDR files were received but could not be ingested due to file privilege settings. The file privilege settings were changed and tested successfully on Behind yesterday (day 312, Nov 8). The new DCD system will be used routinely with Madrid starting tomorrow (Nov 10). * On day 309 (Nov 5), during the DSS 65 support for Behind, turbo decoder lock was lost intermittently at 1651z, 1757z, and again at 1849z. This resulted in the loss of several minutes of instrument SSR data. A DR has been requested. * The average daily SSR downlink was 5.5 gigabits for Ahead, and 4.4 gigabits for Behind. Week 45 * IMPACT successfully commanded new tables for the SIT instrument on Ahead yesterday (Nov 8). The same procedure will be done on Behind tomorrow (Nov 10). * The 15th SECCHI stepped calibration roll was carried out on Ahead early this morning (Nov 9), starting at 08:30 UT. This was the aphelion roll. * The new DCD system will be used routinely with Madrid starting tomorrow. * Ahead has 720 kbps passes on Tuesday, Nov 9, using station 14, and Saturday, Nov 13, using station 63. There are 14 passes during the week, and overall coverage is 4 hours above nominal. * There are no 720 kbps passes for Behind during the week. There are 12 passes during the week, and overall coverage is 1.6 hours below nominal. In particular, coverage is 2.3 hours short for Monday-Wednesday. There should be no loss of in situ data. Week 46 * Ahead has 720 kbps passes on Monday, Nov 15, and Friday, Nov 19, both using station 14. There are 14 tracks during the week, and overall coverage is nominal. * Behind has 720 kbps passes on Monday, Nov 15, using station 43, and Sunday, Nov 21, using station 14. There are 13 tracks during the week, and overall coverage is 3.2 hours below nominal. Track coverage is particularly low on Wednesday, with a single 3.8 hour track. * The SECCHI team brought up an issue with inconsistencies in the track descriptions which are causing them problems with their automated scheduling. APL will look into this issue. Week 47 * Thursday, Nov 25 is Thanksgiving in US. Friday, Nov 26 is also a holiday at APL. The MOC will be operating unattended both days. * Ahead has 720 kbps passes on Tuesday, Nov 24, using station 63, and Sunday, Nov 28, using station 14. There are 14 tracks during the week, and overall coverage is nominal. * Behind has 720 kbps passes on Monday, Nov 23, using station 63, and Friday, Nov 26, using station 14. There are 14 tracks during the week, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 48 * The 34th momentum dump on Ahead will be carried out Thursday, Dec 2, with ignition at 15:00 UT. * Ahead has 720 kbps passes on Monday, Nov 29, Wednesday, Dec 1, Thursday, Dec 2, and Saturday, Dec 4. The Monday pass uses station 14; the rest use station 63. There are 14 tracks during the week, and overall coverage is nominal. * Behind has a 720 kbps pass on Sunday, Dec 5, using station 63. There are 12 tracks during the week, and overall coverage is 2 hours below nominal. Week 49 * Ahead has a 720 kbps pass on Tuesday, Dec 7, using station 43. There are 14 passes during the week, and overall coverage is nominal. * Behind has a 720 kbps pass on Wednesday, Dec 8, using station 63. There are 11 passes during the week, and overall coverage is 1.8 hours above nominal. Week 50 * The 28th momentum dump on Behind will be performed on Dec 15, with ignition at 17:30. * A question was raised about how the time is selected for the momentum dumps. Momentum dumps are commanded in real time, typically in the middle of a track, and preferably during normal business hours, with sufficient time before and after the dump for commanding. * Ahead has 720 kbps passes on Monday, Dec 13, using station 43, on Thursday, Dec 16, using station 43, and on Saturday, Dec 18, using station 63. There are 13 passes during the week, and overall coverage is nominal. * Behind has a 720 kbps pass on Wednesday, Dec 15, using station 63. There are 11 passes during the week, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 51 * Christmas is on Saturday, Dec 25. Friday, Dec 24 is a holiday at APL. * Ahead has 720 kbps passes on Monday Dec 20 (D43), Wednesday, Dec 22 (D43), Saturday, Dec 25 (D43), and Sunday, Dec 26 (D14). There are 13 passes during the week, and overall coverage is nominal. * Behind has 720 kbps passes on Monday, Dec 20 (D63), Tuesday, Dec 21 (D63), Thursday, Dec 23 (D14), and Saturday, Dec 25 (D43). There are 10 passes during the week, and overall coverage is 3.2 hours below nominal. Week 52 * New Years is on Saturday, Jan 1. Friday, Dec 31 is a holiday at APL. * Ahead has a 720 kbps pass on Wednesday, Dec 29 using station 43. There are 14 passes during the week, and overall coverage is nominal. * Behind has a 720 kbps pass on Friday, Dec 31, using station 43. There are 12 passes during the week, and overall coverage is 1.75 hours above nominal. Week 1 * Ahead has two 720 kbps passes on Wednesday, Jan 5 using stations 14 and 43. There are 14 passes during the week, and overall coverage is nominal * Behind has 720 kbps passes on Monday, Jan 3 (D63), Tuesday, Jan 4 (D43), Wednesday, Jan 5 (D63), Thursday, Jan 6 (D63), and Friday, Jan 7 (D63). There are 14 passes during the week, and overall coverage is nominal. Other * The current anticipated date for the SSC move within Goddard is Monday, Nov 29. The system may need to be shut down the night before the move. Users should anticipate that it may take a couple of days to bring the system back online. The entire SDAC system is moving over, including both SOHO and STEREO. It was pointed out that one problem with moving data system is getting all the firewall rules in place. The SDAC has been proactive in trying to clear up firewall rules beforehand. Some SOHO computers will move over the previous week, which will give a chance to test the firewall. * There was some discussion about the use of station 14 at low elevation angles. Since station 14 has only recently come back online after a long hiatus, there are still some recalibration issues. This can cause a degradation of signal near the horizon. A calculation of the times when the STEREO spacecraft are far enough above the horizon to start the SSR playback for each pass is still awaited. * The MOC had some problems last week creating Ahead data files with zero length. This was because a file system became 100% full unexpectedly. Most of the resulting problems have been corrected. SWAVES pointed out a few remaining telemetry files of zero length with no higher version numbers.
