STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2011-11-08 (Week 45) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * None INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * All subsystems on both spacecraft are nominal. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 44 (Oct 31-Nov 6) * On day 302 (Oct 29), during the DSS 15 support for Ahead, real-time telemetry was lost for four seconds in the MOC beginning at 2033z due to the MOC ground software rejecting transfer frames with the private annotation field = U. While it is unclear at this time why these frames were set to 'U', the MOC ground software is being modified to accept this private annotation field setting. This anomaly resulted in the loss of several minutes of SSR data. See DR #N107701 for more information. Since switching to the CCSDS SLE telemetry protocol on day 188 (Jul 7), this anomaly has previously occurred on AHEAD on two other occasions; on day 257-0600z (Sep 14) for three seconds and on day 272-0429z (Sep 29) for four seconds. It also has occurred on three occasions on BEHIND; on day 198-2311z (Jul 17) for six seconds, on day 206-1744z (Jul 25)for five seconds, and on day 295-1530z (Oct 22) for three seconds. * On day 307 (Nov 7), MOps permanent macro release 1.1.13 was loaded to C&DH RAM. This release added an autonomy rule to protect the main bus voltage during the annual battery conditioning event. The same release was loaded to Ahead yesterday (Nov 7). * Starting on day 303 through day 305 (Oct 30-Nov 1), IMPACT and SWAVES instruments' SSR partitions on Behind began periodically overwriting due to insufficient track coverage. Specifically, IMPACT overwrote for 0.5 hours beginning at 303-1431z, for 4.7 hours beginning at 304-1450z, and for 7.3 hours beginning at 305-1234z. SWAVES overwrote for 2.6 hours beginning at 304-1650z and for 5.7 hours beginning at 305-1401z. The primary cause of the insufficient track time was sharing the same view with many other higher priority missions. * On day 305 (Nov 1), the first data flow test was successfully conducted between the ESA reference test station, via the DSN, and the STEREO MOC on BEHIND. A minor anomaly with the MOC ground software concerning the private annotation field in the telemetry frames metadata being set to 'U' prevented the decommutation of telemetry. This will be corrected before the next data flow test on AHEAD on Dec 6. The voice level was a little low, which will also be corrected. * On day 306 (Nov 2), during the DSS 63 support for Behind, turbo decoder lock was lost briefly beginning at 1227z. This anomaly resulted in the loss of one frame of SSR data. See DR# N107708 for more information. * On day 306 (Nov 2), during the DSS 15 support for Behind, turbo decoder lock was lost briefly beginning at 2053z. This anomaly resulted in the loss of one frame of SSR data. See DR# N107709 for more information. * On day 307 (Nov 3), for the DSS 55 support for Behind, telemetry lock was lost intermittently beginning at 1432z due to heavy rain at the Madrid complex. This anomaly resulted in the loss of several minutes of SSR data for all instruments. See DR# M106516 for more information. * The average daily SSR playback volume was 4.9 gigabits for Ahead, and 4.3 gigabits for Behind. Week 45 (Nov 7-13) * The battery conditioning on Ahead yesterday (Nov 7) went well. The battery pressures were dropped by 14-15%, which is enough to redistribute the electrolyte, and then recovered nicely. This procedure will be applied annually at aphelion to maintain the NiH2 batteries. * The 19th SECCHI stepped calibration roll on Behind occurred successfully this morning (Nov 8). This was the aphelion roll. The actual aphelion is tomorrow (Nov 9). * Ahead has 70 meter passes on Monday, Nov 7 (D14), Wednesday, Nov 9 (D63), Friday, Nov 11 (D63), Saturday, Nov 12 (D63 at 720 kbps), and Sunday, Nov 13 (D14). There are 10 passes during the week, and coverage is nominal. The Thursday pass on station 15 will be carried out at 240 kbps. * Behind has 70 meter passes on Thursday, Nov 10 (D63), and Saturday, Nov 12 (D43 twice, first at 720 kbps). There are 12 passes during the week, and coverage is nominal. Week 46 (Nov 14-20) * The 42nd momentum dump on Ahead is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov 15, with ignition at 16:30 UT. * The 36th momentum dump on Behind is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov 16, with ignition at 22:00 UT. * A Downlink Signal Generator (DSG) data flow test with DSS 15 at Goldstone will be held on Nov. 16 14:15-16:15 UT to test out new equipment. Instrument teams will see old data flowing during this time. * Ahead has 70 meter passes on Monday, Nov 14 (D14), Tuesday, Nov 15 (D14), Friday, Nov 18 (D63), and Saturday, Nov 19 (D63). All but the Monday pass will be carried out at 720 kbps. There are 10 passes during the week, and overall coverage is nominal. * Behind has 70 meter passes on Tuesday, Nov 15 (D14), Wednesday, Nov 16 (D14), and Thursday, Nov 17 (D43). There are 11 passes during the week, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 47 (Nov 21-27) * A battery discharge cycle on Behind is scheduled for Nov. 22 14:00-14:18 UT. * Thanksgiving is on Thursday, Nov 24. The following Friday is also a holiday at APL. * The launch window for the MSL opens at 15:21 UT on Nov 25. Launch contingency DSN schedules are now available covering a week after Nov 25. There would be no changes in the Behind schedule, and reasonable changes for Ahead. * Ahead has a 70 meter pass on Wednesday, Nov 23 using station 14.
